The Refinement Lab

You finished the course. You learned the words. But the speaking still doesn’t come out the way it does in your head. This is eight weeks of fixing exactly that.

What it is

This isn’t a classroom. It’s a lab.

A classroom is where a tutor talks and you take it in. A lab is where you do the work and someone watches closely enough to correct it.

You talk more than Abigail

That isn’t a nice idea, it’s the design. If you’re listening most of the lesson, something has gone wrong.

Corrected in the moment

Not noted down for later. Said back to you, fixed, and repeated until it sits right.

No new vocabulary lists

You already know more words than you can use. The Lab closes that gap instead of widening it.

Which one

Finished New Year, New Twi? Here’s how to choose.

Two routes, and they’re not the same thing. One moves you up a level. The other makes sure the level you have is solid.

Stay and strengthen

The Refinement Lab

Choose this if you finished NYNT but you’re not building your own sentences yet.

  • You know the words but freeze using them
  • Your pronunciation and tones need work
  • You want more reps, not more content
  • Jumping to A2 feels too soon

Move up a level

Ka Kakra

Choose this if you’re already making your own sentences and want to push into A2.

  • You build sentences without a model
  • You want to give opinions and tell stories
  • You’re ready for a faster pace
  • You’re aiming towards B1

Still not sure? Message us and we’ll tell you honestly which one fits.

The method

How correction actually works here.

Most lessons let a mistake pass so nobody feels embarrassed. That’s how mistakes set. In the Lab we stop, fix it, and you say it again.

01

You speak

You attempt it. Wrong tone, wrong word, half a sentence. It doesn’t matter.

02

Abigail repeats it back

You hear exactly what you said, then you hear it correctly. The difference becomes obvious.

03

You say it again

Straight away, properly. That repetition is the entire point, and it’s what makes it stick.

The eight weeks

From baseline to showcase.

Week 1

Speaking Baseline

Where you actually are today. Recorded, so week eight can prove the difference.

Week 2

Thinking in Twi

Cutting out the English translation step that slows everything down.

Week 3

Flow & Connectors

The small joining words that turn separate sentences into speech.

Week 4

Opinions & Feelings

Saying what you think and how you feel, not just what you see.

Week 5

Real Ghanaian Conversations

How people actually speak, at the speed they actually speak it.

Week 6

Speaking Under Pressure

No preparation, no warning. The situation most people freeze in.

Week 7

Storytelling

Holding the floor for longer than a sentence and keeping people with you.

Week 8

Final Showcase

Two minutes of Twi. No script. Then your Certificate of Completion.

Your tutor

Abigail runs the Lab.

“I’m a student at the University of Ghana and I love reading, teaching and dancing. I aspire to become a lecturer one day, so helping people learn is really close to my heart. I’m excited to guide you and make learning Twi both enjoyable and engaging.”

“Abigail has been so patient. She’s created a space where I actually feel comfortable speaking, not just listening.”

Venny A. — East London

“I was nervous but the tutors and group were very supportive and encouraging, even with my British accent. It is challenging but they made it fun and enjoyable.”

Maxine — Refinement Lab

Questions

Before you join.

Do I have to have done New Year, New Twi?

Yes. The Lab is for our alumni. It assumes you’ve already covered the A1 material and that what you need now is practice rather than new content.

How is this different from Ka Kakra?

Ka Kakra moves you up to A2 with new material and a faster pace. The Lab keeps you where you are and makes it solid.

If you’re not yet building your own sentences comfortably, the Lab first will make Ka Kakra far easier later.

Will I learn new vocabulary?

Some, but that isn’t the point. Most people arrive knowing more words than they can actually use. The Lab exists to close that gap.

Being corrected constantly sounds intimidating.

It sounds worse than it is. Everyone in the room is getting corrected, everyone is making the same kinds of mistakes, and the group is small enough that nobody is performing for an audience.

Students consistently say it’s the part that helped most.

Why is it cheaper than New Year, New Twi?

Because it’s built on what you’ve already paid for. There’s no new curriculum to take you through, so it costs less to run and we price it that way.

Can I do the Lab and Ka Kakra?

Plenty of people do the Lab first and move into Ka Kakra afterwards. If you continue with us, your Student Hub access carries on too.
