The eight weeks

Sound System
The sounds of Twi, and the tones that change meaning. Your ear before your mouth.
Week 2
Greetings
Greeting properly, at the right time of day, to the right person. The first thing anyone will judge you on.
Week 3
Food
Ordering, describing and asking for what you actually want to eat.
Week 4
Market Moves
Buying, bargaining and holding your own with a seller.
Week 5
Family & People
Talking about your family, describing people, and the words that matter at home.
Week 6
Conversations
Putting it together. Asking questions, answering, and keeping a conversation moving.
Week 7
Culture & Slang
How people actually talk. The expressions you won’t find in a textbook.
Week 8
Final Challenge
You speak, unscripted. Then your Certificate of Completion.

When is the next intake?
Our Autumn cohorts have started, so doors are closed for now. Join the waitlist and you’ll be the first to know when the next one opens, before it goes anywhere else.
Can I still join the cohort that’s running?
No, and that’s deliberate. Every week builds on the one before, and joining halfway would mean starting behind. Better to begin at week one with everyone else.
I’m a complete beginner. Is that really okay?
Yes. That’s exactly who this is built for. You don’t need to know a single word before week one.
How long is each lesson?
One hour, once a week, live on Zoom. Plus your midweek YBK speaking session.
What if I miss a lesson?
Every lesson is recorded and uploaded to your Student Hub, so you can catch up in your own time.
How long do I keep access to the recordings?
Two months after your experience finishes. If you continue with us into another experience, your Hub access continues too.
Do I get homework?
No. We don’t set homework. You’ll get a weekly speaking challenge instead, because you learn Twi by speaking it.
Do I need Ghanaian family to join?
Not at all. Many of our students have Ghanaian roots and plenty don’t. Nobody will ask you to justify why you’re here.
Will I actually be speaking after eight weeks?
You won’t be fluent. Nobody is after eight weeks. What you will be able to do is greet people properly, introduce yourself, order food and hold a simple conversation without freezing.
For most people, that’s the wall they’ve been stuck at for years.
What time are the lessons?
We run two groups, one timed for Europe and one for North America, both on Saturdays. You choose your group when you reserve your place.
What can I do while I wait?
Join YBK. It’s our weekly speaking community and it’s open all year, no intake dates. Plenty of people use it to get comfortable speaking before their cohort starts.
